Who we are...

At re.kin.ect Massage Therapy, our treatment protocol accounts for the many different aspects of your life. We look at the root cause of your pain, not just the symptoms. By treating the source, we aim to reduce or eliminate your pain, without the side effects of using pain relieving drugs or anti inflammatories. We also can help you to maintain a healthy body and lifestyle. We encourage all of our clients to use massage as a preventative therapy. Preventing pain is much easier than trying to eliminate it after it has become an established pattern in the body.

During your first session, we will include a fifteen to twenty minute comprehensive intake that enables us to properly evaluate the current state of your body and pain level. This is the foundation that we base your future goals on. Once determined, we will recommend a course of treatment to help you achieve those goals. This plan may include, but is not limited to, self-massage techniques, exercise and stretching, dietary recommendations and other lifestyle changes. Experience the difference a skilled massage therapist can make – one who actually takes the time to listen and understand a patients’ complete lifestyle. Let us “re.kin.ect” you to your health and well-being.

Thousands of people have been able to work through serious injuries and chronic pain thanks to his help and guidance. Many of these clients have continued to work with Tom to maintain a healthy body and lifestyle.

Our Services...

Deep Tissue Massage

The purpose of deep tissue massage is to relieve severe tension in both the muscles and the fascia (connective tissue). Focusing on the tissue located under the superficial muscles, deep tissue massage is most often recommended for people who experience chronic pain, who are involved in a heavy amount of physical activity such as athletes or those who have experienced a physical injury or trauma.

Deep tissue massage is intense, deliberate and focused work. Sometimes after a deep tissue massage you may find that the areas that were focused on may be tender or sore. This is a normal part of the healing process and can last one to two days after the massage. Deep tissue massage uses a dedicated set of strokes and techniques to achieve a desired measure of relief to treat specific musculoskeletal disorders and imbalances. Additionally, deep tissue massage should not be confused with deep pressure massage, which is performed with sustained strong and sometimes intense pressure for an entire full-body session, and is not performed to address a specific complaint.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses five different styles of long, flowing strokes to massage the muscles. The five basic strokes of Swedish massage consist of effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading or squeezing), tapotement (tapping), friction and vibration or shaking. A Swedish massage places less emphasis on working out serious adhesions or knots in the muscle tissue and more on overall relaxation, so there’s no worry about the therapist testing your pain limits trying to get the muscle to release. Some people find it so relaxing, they fall asleep. Swedish massage has shown to help reduce pain, lower stress levels, reduce joint stiffness, and improve function in patients with osteoarthritis.

Amma Therapy

Based in Taoism, Amma Therapy is a form of massage therapy that is highly specialized. Its origins date back to roughly five thousand years ago to the period of Huangdi, the legendary Yellow Emperor of China. Amma Therapy combines deep tissue manipulation with the application of pressure and friction to specific points. It could be compared to acupuncture, except rather than stimulating the energy pathway via the insertion of needles, an Amma therapist uses the sensitivity and strength of the hands.

Proven to be a powerful and effective therapy for the health and well being of patients at any age, Amma Therapy employs advanced techniques that can help with stiffness and pain in the neck, migraine and tension headaches, shoulder and upper back pain, lower back pain, muscular pain, indigestion, constipation, premenstrual syndrome, anxiety, poor sleep patterns, stress and acute and chronic sinusitis.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization is a new range of tools that enables clinicians to efficiently locate and treat individuals diagnosed with soft tissue dysfunction. The technique itself is said to be a modern evolution from Traditional Chinese Medicine called Gua Sha. IASTM is a procedure that is growing in popularity due to its effectiveness and efficiency while remaining non-invasive. IASTM is performed with ergonomically designed instruments that detect and treat fascial restrictions, encourage rapid localized healing and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis, chronic inflammation, or degeneration. As in any manual therapy treatment, supplementation with exercises and additional modalities e.g. joint mobilization designed to correct bio mechanical deficiencies by addressing musculoskeletal strength and muscle imbalances throughout the entire kinetic chain should be used in conjunction with IASTM. Instruments effectively break down fascial restrictions and scar tissue. The ergonomic design of these instruments provides the clinician with the ability to locate restrictions and allows the clinician to treat the affected area with the appropriate amount of pressure. The introduction of controlled micro-trauma to affected soft tissue structure causes the stimulation of a local inflammatory response. Micro-trauma initiates re-absorption of inappropriate fibrosis or excessive scar tissue and facilitates a cascade of healing activities resulting in remodeling of affected soft tissue structures. Adhesions within the soft tissue which may have developed as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms, are broken down allowing full functional restoration to occur.

Prenatal Massage

Massage during pregnancy offers undeniable physical benefits throughout the entire pregnancy. In the majority of cases, massage is a perfectly safe method for expectant mothers to manage general pain, and tension that her body is going through. Research has shown that women who receive massage while pregnant may have easier deliveries, a reduced chance of postpartum depression, and may regain their bodies more quickly. While receiving a pregnancy massage, women are positioned on their side using specially designed bolsters and pillows to allow the therapist access to their back. Likewise, more specially-designed pillows are used to position them in a semi-reclined position, enabling them to receive work on their belly and any other area that would normally be massaged if lying flat. Regardless of the position, expecting mothers will always remain properly draped as always except for the area being massaged.

At re.kin.ect Massage Therapy, we require a release from any pregnant women’s doctor clearing you to receive prenatal massage. You will not be eligible to receive your first prenatal massage until after the first twelve weeks of pregnancy.
